Bring on the fireworks! It’s time to celebrate our nation’s freedom. What better time for PulpFest to say thanks for all of the donations that we have received? They’re all for our members. The only requirement is to be at PulpFest 2025 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry between August 7 and August 10.
When you arrive at PulpFest 2025, one of the first things you’ll see will be this year’s welcome banner. We want to thank Shasta/Phoenix Art for sponsoring this year’s banner. Shasta/Phoenix is committed to preserving and promoting the art of the science fiction and fantasy genres.
Many thanks to Todd McDevitt and New Dimensions Comics, Pittsburgh’s largest retail seller of comics, games, and collectibles, for donating this year’s giveaway, Orbit: Graphic Science Fiction #3, published by Eclipse Comics in 1990. This collectible work features graphic adaptations of stories by Isaac Asimov, Garry Kilworth, and Lucius Shepard that originally ran in Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine.
We’re very grateful to Jeffrey Marks, the award-winning author of biographies of Craig Rice and Anthony Boucher, and the publisher of Crippen & Landru, Publishers, for donating several copies of Erle Stanley Gardner’s Hot Cash, Cold Clews: Adventures of Lester Leith that will serve as door prizes at this year’s convention.
We’re also grateful to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., Flinch Books, Henry G. Franke III & ERBFest, Meteor House, and Mike Chomko, Books for also helping with this year’s door prizes. We’ll be handing them out during our 2025 programming.
To help celebrate the sesquicentennial of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ birth, Jim Gerlach of ERB Books has donated one of his fantastic collector’s editions to PulpFest 2025. We’ll be raffling off Pirates of Venus – The Illustrators Edition on Saturday evening, August 9, at 7:30 pm. Tickets will be available at the PulpFest 2025 registration desk for $5. You don’t need to be present at the drawing to win. Buy as many tickets as you want for a chance to win a copy of this signed and limited edition, a $349.99 value.
If you can’t wait until PulpFest for a chance to win a copy of Pirates of Venus – The Illustrators Edition, you can get $50 off the regular price if you order a copy online at ERB Books. Use the code PV50 when you check out to save $50.
As a special offer to members of PulpFest 2025, if you join The Burroughs Bibliophiles as a new member, a free back issue of The Burroughs Bulletin will be given to you at the convention. Please visit the organization’s table at PulpFest for more information.
Many thanks to Jess Terrell and the For the Love of All Things Edgar Rice Burroughs Facebook group for their continuing sponsorship of pulpfest.com. It’s a tremendous way to help us with our celebration of the pulp writers, editors, publishers, and artists who continue to inspire contemporary creators of the world’s popular culture.
We’d also like to thank Heritage Auctions, one of the leading dealers and appraisers of collectibles in the world, Starship Sloane Publishing and Justin T. O’Conor Sloane, the Editor-in-Chief of the reborn Worlds of IF and Galaxy Science Fiction magazines, David Spurlock and Vanguard Productions for their sponsorships of pulpfest.com.
Also helping to sponsor pulpfest.com are ERB Books, Mike Chomko, Books, and ThePulp.Net, your link to the online world of pulp magazines since 1996!
We also want to thank the Pittsburgh area bookstores and comic shops that have helped to promote this summer’s pulp con. Special thanks to Steve Ericson of Books from the Crypt, Ron Adams of Creepy Classics and Monster Bash, Alex Daoundakis, Martin Grams, Todd McDevitt of New Dimension Comics, and Jesse Noble of Gem City Comic Con for their tremendous help.
A big shout-out to the Caliban Book Shop. They’ve been helping to promote PulpFest ever since the convention relocated to the Pittsburgh area. Located at 410 South Craig Street near the Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh, Caliban Book Shop buys and sells used and rare books for readers and collectors. They’re particularly strong in vintage paperbacks, with a basement full of paperback fiction, mysteries, and science fiction, all priced way below retail. Visit their Instagram page for a peak at some of their pulpwood pickings, including their “Cowboy Corner.”
One last reminder: your PulpFest membership also includes membership in Doc Con XXI, ERBFest 2025, and FarmerCon XX. That’s four conventions for the price of one!
If you want to register as a dealer for this year’s PulpFest, our dealers’ room is full. However, we are adding a limited number of tables in the pre-function foyer outside of the dealers’ room. These tables will cost $125 each and will be guarded by security overnight. If you are interested, please write to Jack Cullers at jack@pulpfest.com to sign up for a spot.

During July and August 1942, just months after the United States entered World War II, magazines nationwide featured the American flag on their covers. Adopting the slogan “United We Stand,” some five hundred publications waved the stars and stripes to promote national unity, rally support for the war, and celebrate Independence Day. Our lead image is Popular Publications’ contribution to the effort — E. Franklin Wittmack’s cover for the August 1942 issue of Adventure.
Our featured image is excerpted from Blue Book for March 1946, with cover by Herbert Morton Stoops depicting “The Birth of the Nation,” part three of the artist’s 11-part “This Is Our Land” cover series.
