Though we’re nearly a year away from putting the next issue of The Pulpster into your hands, we’re beginning to line up articles for the 34th issue of our magazine. Are you interested in contributing? The Pulpster 34 will debut next August at PulpFest 2025.
For over 50 years, PulpFest has celebrated mystery, adventure, science fiction, and more. The theme of PulpFest 2025 will be “Masters of Blood and Thunder.” It’s a salute to writers Edgar Rice Burroughs, Rafael Sabatini, and Edgar Wallace. Next year will be the 150th anniversary of their births. Have something to write about them? Or want to write about another “Master of Blood and Thunder?” A writer, an artist, an editor? We’d love to hear from you.
2025 is also the 90th anniversary of Doctor Death, Doctor Satan, and The Mysterious Wu Fang. They all debuted way back in 1935! Have a favorite villain that you’d like to write about. Well get to work!
We’re always happy to have articles related to our PulpFest themes, but we don’t limit contributions to those topics. We generally have a variety of articles in each issue, including essays related to the men and women who wrote, illustrated, edited, and published the pulps. Others are magazine histories or essays on the pulp-collecting hobby itself.
There are two routes you can take to help us out:
• Do you have an idea for an article that you would like to write for The Pulpster? Please drop us a line and let us know.
• Do you have an idea for an article that you would like to read in The Pulpster, but not necessarily write? Let us know that, too. We will try to recruit someone to write it.
If you have an idea, shoot me an email at bill@pulpfest.com. The sooner I hear from you, the better. I have to plan space for articles and start collecting artwork and illustrations. The deadline to submit your finished article is May 1, 2025.
If you’d like to advertise in The Pulpster, please write to the magazine’s publisher Mike Chomko at mike@pulpfest.com. He can provide pricing and print specifications. If you’d like a cover spot, they sell quickly.
And of course, please register for PulpFest 2025 to ensure you get a copy of next year’s issue.
If you’re not able to attend PulpFest in 2025, consider registering as a supporting member. To thank you for your contribution, we’ll mail you a copy of The Pulpster #34 after the convention. All members of PulpFest — including supporting members — receive a free copy of The Pulpster as part of their membership.

Our lead image is a preliminary cover for The Pulpster #34. Adapted by Bill Lampkin, the artwork is from Clinton Pettee’s cover for the October 1912 issue of The All-Story, illustrating Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel, “Tarzan of the Apes,” printed in its entirety.
Our featured image is excerpted from Joseph Greenup’s cover for Pearson’s Magazine for January 1930, illustrating Rafael Sabatini’s short story, “The Blank Shot,” featuring the popular character Captain Peter Blood.
Born in 1891, Greenup was educated at the Birmingham School of Art, South Kensington College of Art, and the Royal Academy School. He worked as an illustrator for newspapers, books, and periodicals and as a portrait painter. A British artist, he was best known for the posters he designed for the London and North Eastern Railway, advertising various travel destinations. He signed his posters as “Jossie Greenup.”
