PulpFest

Free Stuff at PulpFest 2026

Bring on the fireworks! It’s time to celebrate our nation’s freedom. What better time for PulpFest to say thanks for all of the donations that we have received? They’re all for our members. The only requirement is to be at PulpFest 2026 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry between July 30 and August 2.

When you arrive at PulpFest 2026, one of the first things you’ll see will be this year’s welcome banner. We want to thank Greg Ketter and DreamHaven Books and Comics for sponsoring our 2026 banner. The Minneapolis-based store is one of the oldest and largest purveyors of new & used science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comic books in the United States.

We’re also grateful to Cirsova Publishing, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., Flinch Books, Meteor House, and Curt Phillips of Pulp Era Booksellers for contributing this year’s door prizes. We’ll be awarding them during our 2026 programming presentations. So be sure to study your pulp trivia.

To help celebrate the centennial of artist and illustrator Robert K. Abbett’s birth, Jim Gerlach of ERB Books has donated one of his fantastic collector’s editions to PulpFest 2026. We’ll be raffling off Pirates of Venus – The Illustrators Edition on Saturday evening, August 1, at 7:30 pm. Tickets will be available at the PulpFest 2026 registration desk for $5. You don’t need to be present at the drawing to win. Buy as many tickets as you want for a chance to win a copy of this signed, limited edition, a $350 value. And if you don’t win, stick around. A copy of Robert Zeuschner’s masterful Edgar Rice Burroughs: The Bibliography will also be given away.

If you join The Burroughs Bibliophiles as a new member at PulpFest 2026, a free back issue of The Burroughs Bulletin will be given to you at the convention. Please visit the organization’s table at PulpFest for more information.

Many thanks to Jess Terrell and the For the Love of All Things Edgar Rice Burroughs Facebook group for their continuing sponsorship of pulpfest.com. Likewise, many thanks to Heritage Auctions, one of the world’s leading dealers and appraisers of collectibles, and ERB Books. Their generosity is a tremendous way to help with our celebration of the pulp writers, editors, publishers, and artists who continue to inspire contemporary creators of the world’s popular culture.

Also helping to sponsor pulpfest.com are best-selling author Craig McDonald, Mike Chomko, Books, and ThePulp.Net, your link to the online world of pulp magazines since 1996!

We also want to thank the Pittsburgh area bookstores and comic shops that have helped to promote this summer’s pulp con. Also, special thanks to Steve Ericson of Books from the Crypt, Alex Daoundakis, Henry Franke, Bill McMahon, William Patrick Maynard, Todd McDevitt of New Dimension Comics, and Jesse Noble of Gem City Comic Con for their tremendous help. And many thanks to the science fiction, film, and comic book conventions that have displayed our postcards at their registration desks.

One last reminder: your PulpFest membership also includes membership in Doc Con 2026, FarmerCon XXI, and The Shadow Con 2026. That’s four conventions for the price of one!

Our featured image was excerpted from Robert Fuqua’s cover for the August 1943 issue of Amazing Stories. We’ll be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Hugo Gernsback’s groundbreaking magazine at PulpFest 2026.

Our lead image is the July 15, 1922 issue of Snappy Stories, published by the New Fiction Publishing Corporation, part of Clayton Magazines. The cover art is by Carl Becker, who generally signed his covers, “C. Becker.” His work seems to appear almost exclusively in the “girlie pulps,” particularly Snappy Stories. He also contributed cover art and interior illustrations to Breezy Stories, Live Stories, Spicy Stories, and Whoopie! A naturalized citizen, born in Germany on June 6, 1888, Becker lived with his family in New York City. Leaving school after completing the ninth grade, he became a commercial artist, working for the Philip Kobbe Advertising Company on Fifth Avenue for many years.
