PulpFest

Saturday at PulpFest 2024

There’s still some time to get in on the action at PulpFest 2024 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry in Mars, Pennsylvania. Our dealers’ room will open to all at 9 am and will remain open until 4:45 pm.

Located in the Grand Ballroom of the DoubleTree, our dealers’ room will feature exhibitors selling and trading pulp magazines and related materials, digests, vintage paperbacks, contemporary genre fiction and pulp reprints, men’s adventure and true crime magazines, first-edition hardcovers, series books, dime novels, original art, Big Little Books, B-movies, serials and related paper collectibles, old-time-radio shows, and Golden and Silver Age as well as pulp-related comic books and games. That’s why PulpFest is known as the “pop culture center of the universe!”

There is ample free parking surrounding the convention’s host hotel. It is very conveniently located at the intersection of three major roadways in Cranberry Township. The DoubleTree is just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate-79. The address is 910 Sheraton Drive, MarsPennsylvania. We have a map on our website or click here for a link to a large map of the area.

A single-day membership for Saturday, August 3, will be available for $25. Children who are fifteen and younger and accompanied by a parent will be admitted free of charge. New members will be able to register for the convention from 9 am to 4:45 pm. Registration will take place at the entrance to our dealers’ room at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry. Watch for our welcome banner.

We’ll be selling about 240 lots of material from the estate of the late Charles Danowski and 60 lots consigned by members of the convention. The auction will take place this evening, beginning at 9 pm. The general public is welcome to attend and bid. To learn more or to download an auction catalog, click here.

PulpFest 2024 members will also be able to submit lots to our auction. These will be sold at the end of our auction as time allows. Please read our “Auction Update for PulpFest 2024 Members” post to learn more. Our guidelines for auction submissions will also be part of each member’s registration packet.

From 5:30 – 8:30 pm, The Burroughs Bibliophiles will hold their 2024 Dum-Dum Banquet at Bravo! Italian Kitchen, a quick car ride from PulpFest‘s host hotel. The event is separate from PulpFest and requires a separate ticket. You don’t need to be a member of the Bibliophiles to attend. Visit the ERBFest table in our registration area or the Bibliophiles table in the dealers’ room to learn more.

The Bibliophiles will hold a board meeting at the DoubleTree after the conclusion of the Dum-Dum Banquet.

Beginning at 6:55 pm, there will be a short business meeting concerning the future of PulpFest. This will be followed by the presentation of the 2024 Munsey Award and our Raffle Drawing, sponsored by ERB Books. Tickets will be available at the PulpFest 2024 registration desk for $5. You don’t need to be present at the drawing to win.

Our last programming event for the evening will be “The Hardboiled Fiction of Peter Paige,” an interview with Peter Wolson, the author’s son, conducted by writer, novelist, lecturer, filmmaker, radio and TV host, and podcaster John Wooley. Our PulpFest 2024 auction will follow the conclusion of the interview.

We’ll close out the night with a Barsoomian Bull-Session in the Ember & Vine lounge at the DoubleTree, always a highlight for ERBFest members. Anyone can attend.

Our featured image is excerpted from Douglas C. Klauba’s painting, “A Princess of Mars,” a special commission and portfolio piece.

Our lead image was adapted by William Lampkin from Gray Morrow’s cover for Philip José Farmer’s The Mad Goblin, originally released in 1970 as half of an Ace Double (paired with Farmer’s Lord of the Trees).

Our final image was adapted by William Lampkin from Rafael DeSoto’s cover for the February 1942 issue of Black Mask. One of the works featured in the issue was Peter Paige’s short story, “The Night You Shot Hitler.” How’s that for a title?

Bill Lampkin also designed the PulpFest and FarmerCon logos.
