PulpFest is not only lauded for its great programming but also for its very substantial dealers’ room.
Beginning on Thursday, August 4, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry will be home to thousands of collectible pulp magazines and digests, vintage paperbacks, first edition hardcovers and series books, original art, B-movies and serials, collectible comic books, and much more.
What dealers are we expecting at PulpFest 50? For the next four days, we’ll be profiling our dealers, telling you a little bit about each of them so you get to know them.
Ray Walsh of the Curious Book Shop has been selling a broad array of paper collectibles – pulps, paperbacks, original artwork, collectible hardcovers, vintage comic books, and more — for nearly fifty years. Out of East Lansing, Michigan, Ray has been selling at PulpFest — and Pulpcon before it — for decades. We appreciate his long support. Ray is one of the founders and organizers of the Michigan Antiquarian Book & Paper Show, the Midwest’s largest book and paper show.
Dearly Departed Books of Alliance, Ohio is a brick & mortar shop open by chance or appointment. It primarily sells via the Internet. Established in 1978 by Scott and Linda Edwards, this loyal PulpFest dealer offers a large stock of mystery, science fiction, horror, fantasy, vintage paperbacks, first editions, pulp magazines, and related ephemera. This year, they’ll be selling pulps, paperbacks, hardbound first editions, Big Little Books, and more.
From 1982 – 85, Jennifer DiGiacomo was the editor and publisher of The Savage Society of Bronze, a Doc Savage fanzine. A resident of New York City, this will be Jennifer’s second consecutive year as a PulpFest dealer. Swing by her table in the dealers’ room to peruse a few odds and ends from her personal collection. Jennifer will also be one of our Friday afternoon presenters. She’ll be joined by author and essayist Will Murray to discuss The Savage Society of Bronze on the occasion of the fanzine’s 40th anniversary.
Founded in 1977 and located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dreamhaven Books has been selling at PulpFest for many years. Greg Ketter specializes in new and used science fiction, fantasy, horror, film and media books, comics, and graphic novels. An independent bookseller, Greg has been selling books and pulps for over forty years. We look forward to welcoming Dreamhaven back to our dealers’ room.
Christopher Paul Carey, Director of Publishing, and Cathy Mann Wilbanks, Vice President of Operations, will be representing Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. at PulpFest 50. Christopher and Cathy will have all the latest publications from the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe™ to the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library™ to everything in between. They are hoping to debut two new releases at PulpFest 50 — Mahars of Pellucidar and Red Axe of Pellucidar, both by John Eric Holmes. In addition to selling in our dealers’ room, Chris and Cathy will be hosting a panel on “The Universe According to Edgar Rice Burroughs,” featuring author Win Scott Eckert. Christopher will also be part of our Friday afternoon panel on “Bringing the Pulps to the 21st Century — The Writers.”
Two of the organizers of the Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention, Doug Ellis & Deb Fulton will have a wide selection of general fiction, science-fiction, adventure, and other pulps to offer. They’ll also have original art and other collectibles at this year’s PulpFest. Stop by their tables and you’re bound to find something that you can’t do without!
Robin & Brendan Faulkner have been in the popular culture business since the 1960s. Located in Danbury, Connecticut, R & B Enterprises will be selling a wide selection of pulps, vintage magazines, classic movie and television DVDs, paperbacks, hardcovers, and related material at this year’s PulpFest. Please welcome Jim Dyer of Fenham Publishing back to PulpFest. A small independent publishing house located in Narragansett, Rhode Island, Fenham Publishing was established in 2000 by Jim, the grandson of C. M. Eddy, Jr. Mr. Eddy was an author of short stories from the pulp magazine era of the 1920’s, most notably Weird Tales. Perhaps his best-known work is “The Loved Dead,” published in the May – July 1924 number of “The Unique Magazine.” C. M. was a confidant and friend to both H. P. Lovecraft and Houdini during The Roaring Twenties.

Flinch! Books was founded in 2015 by two Ohio-based writers living on the shores of Lake Erie. Since their initial foray into the world of independent publishing — Something Strange is Going On!: New Tales From the Fletcher Hanks Universe — co-publishers Jim Beard and John C. Bruening have followed with five other wide-ranging anthologies, as well as full-length novels showcasing their own creations — including Beard’s Sgt. Janus series and Bruening’s Midnight Guardian series. Their latest offering is Blood on the Blade: Ten Tales of Slashing Swords and Sinister Sorcery, an anthology that has received consistently high praise from the sword-and-sorcery community since it was first published in December 2021. The Flinch team will also be carrying books published under Jim Beard’s recently launched Becky Books imprint.
Martin Grams is an American pop culture historian who has written extensively on radio, television, and films. He’s the author of The Green Hornet: A History of Radio, Motion Pictures, Comics and Television, The Radio Adventures of Sax Rohmer’s Fu Manchu, The Shadow: The History and Mystery of the Radio Program, 1930-1954, and many other titles. In addition to his many award-winning books, Martin will be selling a substantial selection of classic Blu-rays and DVDs for sale. Noir Hayes is a self-published, independent writer. Her first novel, Razor Blades, has been called “a violent version of The Outsiders and Fight Club, but with fewer rules. The book’s sequel, Razor’s Edge, is darker, more immersive, and more rewarding for the returning reader. Without Cessation — published in late 2020 — concerns a washed-up romance novelist. It’s remindful of the Christopher Nolan film, Inception, with its “book-within a book” style. A resident of western Pennsylvania, Noir loves creating worlds and characters bigger than herself and sharing her art with the world. This will be her second trip to PulpFest. Noir will also be part of our Friday afternoon panel on “Bringing the Pulps to the 21st Century — The Writers.”
Richard Meli & Bryce King will be representing Heartwood Books & Art at this year’s PulpFest. Richard is a member of the ABAA with more than twenty-five years of experience in buying and selling vintage pulps, first editions, magazines, paperbacks, and other collectibles. Heartwood has more than 100,000 items available for sale, including the Robert Weinberg collection of rare pulps, digests, paperbacks, and related ephemera, the Napa Valley collection of men’s adventure magazines, the Barry Levin collection, world-class Edgar Rice Burroughs material, and one-of-a-kind Weird Tales, Clark Ashton-Smith, and H. Paul Herman is a dealer and collector based in Connecticut who exhibits at many pulp and paperback conventions. He offers a wide variety of materials including pulps, paperbacks, and vintage digests. He is very strong in the mystery and detective fields, turning up many scarce items. You can also find Fiction House pulps among his regular stock. The Visual History of SF Fandom, Volume 2: 1940, with cover by Mark Wheatley, was released by First Fandom Experience in 2021. Written and edited by David and Daniel Ritter, it was a finalist for the 2021 Locus Award for Non-Fiction. Over 450 pages long and profusely illustrated, it explores the evolution of science fiction fandom in one of its most pivotal years.
Frontier Stories for Spring 1949, with cover by Sidney Riesenberg, was one of the many western-oriented pulps that were published by Fiction House during its nearly forty-year history. At PulpFest 50, we’ll be celebrating the centennial of Fiction House, the pulp magazine and comic book publisher that gave us Action Stories, Fight Comics, Jumbo Comics, Jungle Stories, Lariat Story Magazine, North-West Romances, Planet Stories, Rangers Comics, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, Wings, and many other classic titles.
