(Ever since the first PulpFest in 2009, the convention has attracted new and old writers of fiction and non-fiction to its fold. Witness the annual “New Fictioneers” readings at each and every PulpFest since its beginning, and such writers as Wayne Carey, Gary Rabuzzi, Win Scott Eckert, Frank Schildiner, and Roger Alford. Goodman Games is doing much the same thing by publishing TALES FROM THE MAGICIAN’S SKULL, dedicated to presenting all-new sword-and-sorcery fiction by the finest modern crafters in the genre. The first issue also featured great cover art by Jim Pavelec.
You’ll find thousands of pulp magazines like this DIME DETECTIVE for November 1941 with cover art by Rafael DeSoto — a freelance cover paintings for all the major pulp magazine publishers. PulpFest 2018 will be offering a number of DeSoto letters — plus a cover sketch — at this summer’s auction. There are very few conventions where you can find such great collectibles. That’s why PulpFest annually draws hundreds of fans and collectors of vintage popular fiction and related materials to its annual gathering.
With war raging in Europe, Hannes Bok contributed a telling cover concerning man’s inhumanity to man to the November 1941 issue of WEIRD TALES. Not long thereafter, the United States would enter The Second World War. PulpFest 2018 will be marking the centennial of the armistice that ended World War I. Also called “The War to End All Wars” PulpFest will be honoring the 100th anniversary of “The Great War’s” end by focusing on the so-called “war pulps” of the early twentieth century and the depiction of war in popular culture.
