Ligonier resident RON ADAMS can be considered one of true believers when it comes to the classic horror films of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. In 1997, he threw the first Monster Bash in the Pittsburgh area. Ron also has his own retail venture called CREEPY CLASSICS. He will be offering rare horrors and “Creepy Classics” on Blu-Ray, DVD and VHS, plus monster magazines, books, tee shirts, posters, collectibles, and information on Monster Bash.
JOHN GUNNISON of ADVENTURE HOUSE will be offering his usual extensive stock of pulp magazines as well as HIGH ADVENTURE, G-8 AND HIS BATTLE ACES, and the many pulp replicas and collections he has published under the Adventure House banner. Chicago’s MARK ALVARADO, a longtime collector of books and pulp magazines, will once again be exhibiting at PulpFest. He’s hoping to dig out something super exciting to bring along to the con. A decades long attendee, but seldom a dealer at PulpFest and Pulpcon, DAVID ARONOVITZ looks forward to exhibiting some of his stock at this summer’s convention. His Fine Books Company — which began selling rare and collectible items in 1979 — is located everywhere a computer can be accessed. A 31-year member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, David has travelled to and purchased and sold books on every continent (save Antarctica). Although he has been biased toward all genres of fiction in first edition, he has also branched into many areas of non-fiction published over the last 500 years. His inventory contains over 40,000 items, including books, periodicals, art, letters and manuscripts. David issues occasional virtual catalogues, quickly replies to all inquiries, does appraisals upon request, and has somehow managed to publish nineteen books along the way. BATTERED SILICON DISPATCH BOX is a specialty publisher based in Ontario, Canada with GEORGE VANDERBURGH at the tiller. Author CHRISTOPHER PAUL CAREY will be selling right next to his friends from Meteor House. The Fayatteville Comic Con has called GENE CARPENTER a legendary comic book dealer. As ALL AMERICAN COMICS AND COLLECTIBLES, Gene has been setting up at comic book conventions for over forty years and is one of the nicest guys around. He has no website or facebook page, but does have an incredible selection of golden age and silver age comics, high-grade pulp magazines, paperbacks, and Big Little Books. Gene comes to us from Maryland.
A dealer since 1976, NICK CERTO always manages to unearth lots of rare and desirable items. Our 2010 Munsey Award winner, MIKE CHOMKO, will be representing Altus Press, Stark House Press, and other small publishers at PulpFest 2018. He’ll be premiering various titles from these publishers and have a selection of other materials, including our guest of honor‘s MIRACLES AIN’T WHAT THEY USED TO BE. Mike will also have tremendous bargains on westerns and Science Fiction Book Club editions from the Woody Hagadish collection. His painting was originally used as the cover to the May 1960 number of THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION. Philip José Farmer’s “Open to Me, My Sister” was featured on the issue’s cover. PulpFest 2018 has used Hunter’s cover art to promote our convention at book stores, comic shops, and other conventions and fairs.
Chris Kalb — one of our 2018 Munsey Award nominees — designed the cover for THE DEVIL FLIES HIGH, published in 2018 by Age of Aces Books. It collects the last five adventures of Donald E. Keyhoe’s Jailbird Flight series, originally published in BATTLE BIRDS and DARE-DEVIL ACES. Chris will be part of our “Fighting Ace of War Skies: The Pulps Take Flight” panel on Friday evening, July 27.
One of many air war pulps that debuted during the 1930s, BATTLE BIRDS was converted to a character pulp beginning with its July 1934 number. DUSTY AYRES AND HIS BATTLE BIRDS would run for twelve issues, relating the futuristic adventures of Dusty and his pals as they work to defeat the Black Invaders, led by an Asian warlord bent on world conquest. The stories were written by Robert Sidney Bowen. The series is being reprinted in sequential order by Altus Press.)
