PulpFest Salutes 90 Years of Doc Savage!

We hope you’ll join us at PulpFest 2023 for a celebration of “Chilling Sports,” “Pulp Heroes,” and a great deal more. You’ll find it only at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry from August 3 – 6.

As we’ve been telling you for months, we’ll be celebrating the centennials of Weird TalesSport Story Magazine, and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., the 90th anniversaries of The Spider, Robert E. Howard’s Conan, and Doc Savage, and much more.

Join PulpFest 2023 for a pair of panels centering around the world’s first superman, Doc Savage.

At 2 pm on Friday, August 4, 2023, PulpFest 2023 and FarmerCon XVIII present Doc Savage — The Man — and Myth — of Bronze, featuring Christopher Paul Carey and Win Scott Eckert.

Then on Saturday, August 4, 2023, at 3 pm, Jennifer DiGiacomo — who, as a kid, published The Savage Society of Bronze — will moderate a panel of writers inspired by the adventures of the “Man of Master Mind and Body.” They’ll discuss Doc Savage and His Offspring.

Our panelists will be Win Scott Eckert, Craig McDonald, Will Murray, and Gary Phillips.

To help celebrate the 90th anniversary of Doc Savage Magazine, we’ve also released a short film called PulpFest Salutes 90 Years of Doc Savage!  You’ll find it on the PulpFest YouTube Channel by clicking here.

While you’re there, please subscribe to our YouTube channel for more short films by Craig McDonald, author of the recently released The Mothman Menace, the second of the continuing adventures of Zana O’Savin.

Our featured image is excerpted from George Rozen’s cover art for the final original Doc Savage adventure, “Up from Earth’s Center.” Written by Lester Dent, the story originally ran in the Summer 1949 issue of Doc Savage, published by Street & Smith.

The Doc Savage “superman” advertisement is a Street & Smith house ad from 1934.

Our lead image was adapted by PulpFest advertising director William Lampkin from James Bama’s iconic cover art for the Bantam Book edition of Doc Savage #1 — The Man of Bronze. It was first published in 1964.

Our final image was adapted by William Lampkin from Walter M. Baumhofer’s front cover art for the March 1933 issue of Doc Savage Magazine.
