If you are not from the Pittsburgh area and have yet to book your room for PulpFest 2021, you can try calling 1-800-222-8733 to reach our host hotel. Perhaps there is a vacancy.

According to the DoubleTree’s website, masks are optional for guests and DoubleTree Team Members who are fully vaccinated. The hotel follows Hilton’s brand standard and asks those who are not vaccinated to please wear a mask indoors and practice social distancing.

With the delta variant taking off around the United States, the CDC recommends that everyone, vaccinated or not, should wear masks in indoor public settings in areas with “substantial” or “high” virus transmission. Currently, the counties of Allegheny and Butler — where the DoubleTree is located — are in these categories.

If you are exhibiting any symptoms associated with COVID-19, please stay at home. You should not attend PulpFest or ERBFest. Isolate and avoid contact with others, rest, and drink fluids. If your symptoms worsen, call your health care provider.

PulpFest 2021 will continue through tomorrow afternoon. Our dealers’ room will be open to all members from 9 AM to 2 PM as our exhibitors pack up. If you are coming just for the day, please be aware that buying and selling opportunities may be limited. Admission to the convention for Sunday, August 22, will be $10, the cost of our annual program book, THE PULPSTER.

Our featured image is George Rozen’s iconic painting of The Shadow, originally created for the August 1, 1933 number of THE SHADOW MAGAZINE, a Street & Smith publication.

Joe DeVito painted the jacket art for DOC SAVAGE: THE EMPIRE OF DOOM — one of two novels pairing the Man of Bronze with The Shadow. He is the regular artist for Will Murray’s “The Wild Adventures of Doc Savage.”

Our Eva Lynd postcard features a cover painting by Norm Eastman that was originally done for the December 1968 issue of NEW MAN. Eastman’s cover art is reproduced here, courtesy of The Rich Oberg Collection.

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar” — serialized in five parts, beginning with the November 18, 1916 number of Munsey’s ALL-STORY WEEKLY — featured cover art by P. J. Monahan on its first installment, pictured above.
