PulpFest

Starting Today — 3 Posts a Week

Since last June, we’ve had an announcement about PulpFest once a week. Starting today, we’ll release a post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We’ll maintain that pace until mid-July. After that, we’ll have one post every weekday through the end of this year’s convention.

During the next few weeks, we’ll discuss the PulpFest dealers’ room and this year’s Howard Days. We’ll also visit with author John Wooley for our PulpFest Profile. Throughout June and July, we’ll explore our programming line-up at PulpFest 2021. The convention will focus on the centennial of LOVE STORY MAGAZINE and the ninetieth anniversary of THE SHADOW, the first hero pulp. Both magazines played significant roles in the evolution of genre fiction and American popular culture.

Other highlights of our 2021 programming include presentations on artists Earle K. Bergey, Enoch Bolles, and Margaret Brundage, as well as writing great Edgar Rice Burroughs. And don’t forget about our PulpFest 2021 guest of honor. Eva Lynd was a top model for artists Norm Eastman and Al Rossi, plus a frequent collaborator with Doc Savage model Steve Holland.

PulpFest 2021 will take place August 19 – 22 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry in Mars, Pennsylvania. We hope you’ll join us for “Love in the Shadows” and so much more. You can register for PulpFest 2021  by clicking our “registration” button at the top of the page to be part of “Summer’s Amazing Pulp Con.”

To reserve a room at the DoubleTree, click the “Book a Room” button or call 1.866.568.0896. Be sure to mention PulpFest to get the special convention rate. By staying at the DoubleTree, you’ll help to ensure the convention’s success. We urge every member to book a hotel room for PulpFest 2021 as soon as possible.

THRILLING LOVE and its companion, POPULAR LOVE, were two of many pulp magazines to be inspired by the tremendous success of Street & Smith’s LOVE STORY MAGAZINE. Following its 1921 debut, LOVE STORY’s circulation would grow until it hit 600,000 by the early 1930s, a record that would never be broken by any other pulp magazine. Almost every pulp publisher — including Ned Pines’ Standard Magazines — would attempt to break into the “love pulp” field. None would ever topple the circulation record set by LOVE STORY.

On Friday evening, August 20, join PulpFest 2021 for “Love in the Shadows: The Art of Earle K. Bergey and Enoch Bolles,” presented by Joshua David Bergey & Jack Raglin. It’s just one of many fine presentations planned for this year’s PulpFest. Please click the Programming button on our website for a preview of PulpFest’s programming schedule for 2021.
