PulpFest is very well known for its auctions. This year, due to an abundance of material, the convention will host not one, but two auctions. The first will be held on Friday, July 27, beginning at 10:05 PM. Our second PulpFest auction will take place on Saturday, July 28. It will also begin at 10:05 PM.
PulpFest will be offering pulps and related materials from the collection of the late Woody Hagadish. A longtime collector and reader of books and pulps, Woody was a Pulpcon regular for years. Primarily interested in western pulps — particularly WILD WEST WEEKLY — Woody was a reading enthusiast and enjoyed his collection.
We’ll have a variety of both pulps and digests from such diverse genres as sports, science fiction, and the western field. Also included will be a few premiums offered to pulp readers, over twenty Gnome Press, Shasta, and Avalon first edition hardcovers, rare science fiction paperbacks, British science fiction magazines, and much more.
This year’s auction will also feature pulp magazines from the collection of the late Larry Latham. One of the founding members of the Oklahoma Alliance of Fandom — one of the earliest comics clubs in the nation — Larry enjoyed a varied career in animation, film, TV, theater and teaching. Larry worked at Hanna-Barbera Studios in the storyboard department and graduated to directing and producing at Universal, Walt Disney, Scholastic, and the Berlin Film Company. He won an Emmy for TAILSPIN in 1991. Larry was also admired by the pulp community for his covers and illustrations for ECHOES, THE PULP COLLECTOR, PULP VAULT, and other fanzines. He also created the popular webcomic LOVECRAFT IS MISSING in 2009, which attracted many followers. PulpFest will be offering numerous copies of ARGOSY WEEKLY and Street & Smith’s long-running WESTERN STORY MAGAZINE, all from Larry Latham’s collection.
Our Friday Night Auction will include nearly 500 copies of WILD WEST WEEKLY, about 180 issues of ARGOSY, a nearly complete run of PLANET STORIES, the first three volumes of Leonard Robbins’ monumental THE PULP MAGAZINE INDEX, over fifty Ace Science Fiction Doubles in paperback format, a first edition of C. L. Moore’s JUDGMENT NIGHT, signed letters and post cards from author Mike Avallone and several western authors, a SHADOW MAGAZINE premium, art prints by fan favorite Frank Hamilton, and nearly complete runs of ANALOG, ISAAC ASIMOV’S SCIENCE FICTION MAGAZINE, and THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION into the early 1990s.

Please note that we are still working on the Hagadish collection and may be adding some more items — most likely, early science fiction paperbacks — to the list. Keep watching pulpcon.org for any revisions to the catalog. If time allows, we also hope to post a few images featuring material from our 2018 auctions.
In addition to more than 300 estate lots, all members of PulpFest 2018 can submit items to sell at auction. All auction lots must have a $20 minimum value. If you plan to offer an auction lot with a reserve price, your reserve must be $50 or more. PulpFest reserves the right to reject any auction material that does not meet our standards. The convention charges sellers 10% of the selling price for anything sold at auction. All auction lots must be submitted to PulpFest prior to 1:30 PM on the day of the auction. If you have questions concerning the auction, please contact programming and marketing director Mike Chomko at mike@pulpfest.com or 2217 W. Fairview Street, Allentown, PA 18104-6542.
If you cannot attend PulpFest 2018 and are interested in submitting an absentee bid, please contact Mike Chomko at one of the addresses noted above.
PulpFest 2018 will take place from July 26 through July 29 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry — just north of Pennsylvania’s “Steel City.” You can register for the convention by clicking one of the Register buttons on our home page. And don’t forget to book a room at the DoubleTree. You have one more week to book at the convention’s special rate!
(The September 19, 1942 issue of WILD WEST WEEKLY — featuring front cover art by Henry William Kiemle, Jr. — is just one of nearly 500 copies of the Street & Smith pulp magazine that will be offered in our Friday Night Auction. The auction will begin at 10:05 PM on Friday, July 27 in the programming room at PulpFest 2018.)
