Thanks to the efforts of Henry G. Franke III of the Burroughs Bibliophiles, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., and the PulpFest organizing committee, ERBFest will be returning to this year’s PulpFest.
Debuting in 2021 when it seemed as if a second summer was going to pass without the usual Burroughs conventions, ERBFest is an informal gathering of the fans of bestselling writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the master of adventure. The creator of Tarzan of the Apes, Pellucidar, The Land that Time Forgot, Carson Napier of Venus, and John Carter of Mars, what better place to have a Burroughs festival than Barsoom . . . Mars, Pennsylvania? And what better year than 2023 to bring back ERBFest for another go-round?
One hundred years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs founded his own company and became the first author to incorporate himself. Today Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., is still owned by his heirs; operates out of Tarzana, California, on the property of Mr. Burroughs’ former ranch; and actively promotes his legacy and licenses the rights to his works of wonder and imagination.
We’ll be not only celebrating the centennial of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., but also the 100th anniversary of the author’s Moon Trilogy. Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “The Moon Maid” debuted as a serialized novel in the pages of Frank Munsey’s Argosy All-Story Weekly in 1923.
If that’s not enough, we’ll also take a look at the Tarzan series and jungle adventures in the pulps, celebrated Burroughs artist J. Allen St. John, hold an Edgar Rice Burroughs-themed art show — hosted by Henry Franke — and even stage a Barsoomian Bull Session. It’s all part of ERBFest 2023, taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry from August 3 – 6.
To help celebrate this year’s ERBFest, Jim Gerlach of ERB Books has donated one of his fantastic collector’s editions to PulpFest 2023. We’ll be raffling off The Letterpress Edition of At the Earth’s Core at this year’s convention.
Authorized by and published under the imprint of ERB Inc. of Tarzana, California, the seventh title in the ERB Limited Edition Collection will be raffled off on Saturday evening, August 5, at 8:50 pm. Tickets will be available at the PulpFest 2023 registration desk for $5. You don’t need to be present at the drawing to win.
