PulpFest

Starting Monday — A Daily PulpFest Post!

Since May 2, we’ve had an announcement about PulpFest 50  three days each week. Starting next week, we’ll have at least one post every Monday through Friday. We’ll be maintaining this pace through August 8, the day after the convention ends.

We may even feature an occasional weekend post. There won’t be many of those as our hardworking staff needs a day off every now and then.

In future posts, we’ll discuss our PulpFest 50 dealers, highlights from this year’s issue of THE PULPSTER, take a look at new books premiering at PulpFest, and much more. We’ll also be covering our afternoon programming, including our panels on the Edgar Rice Burroughs Universe and fantasy and science fiction publisher Meteor House, part of our FarmerCon XVII activities. Celebrating the life and times of Philip José Farmer, this summer’s convention for the fans of Farmer and his work will be held at PulpFest 50.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t live on the edge! Register now for PulpFest 50 by clicking the “Registration” button at the top of this page. Become a member of this “Summer’s Pulp Con.” Advance registrations will be ending on Sunday, July 31.

If you would like to register as a dealer at this year’s PulpFest, we’re getting close to running out of tables. So please contact Jack Cullers ASAP. You can reach him at jassways@woh.rr.com or jack@pulpfest.com.

While you’re at it, you can reserve a room at the beautiful DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry. Simply click the Book a Room button, also found at the top of this page. Alternately, you can call 1-800-222-8733 to book a room by telephone. When calling, be sure to mention PulpFest to get the special convention rate. Given the convention’s popularity, we urge everyone to book a hotel room as soon as possible. Remember, you must book your room by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, July 12, to get the special convention rate.

To keep abreast of the convention, please bookmark pulpfest.com. You can also like our Facebook page. Over on Twitter, you’ll find tweets with our updates. You’ll also find a great resource on our Instagram page!

And don’t forget about Confluence, Pittsburgh’s longest-running literary conference. It is organized by Parsec, a non-profit organization that has been promoting science fiction, fantasy, and horror in literature, media, and music for over 25 years. This year’s convention will be held in person from July 29 – 31, 2022 at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel.

Neil Clarke, the editor of the Hugo and World Fantasy Award-winning Clarkesworld Magazine and several anthologies will be the guest of honor at the 2022 Confluence. The convention will also offer many activities including an exciting dealers’ room, art show, workshops, musical filk concerts, and more. Click here to sign up for the Confluence newsletter.

We look forward to seeing you August 4 – 7 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Mars, Pennsylvania. PulpFest 50 will be celebrating “A Half-Century of Pulp Cons,” “Action for a Dime!” and Philip José Farmer. Be there or be square!

Our PulpFest 50 printed postcard has been adapted by PulpFest advertising director William Lampkin from Allen Anderson’s original cover painting for the Spring 1948 number of Action Stories, a Fiction House pulp magazine. We’ll be celebrating the centennial of the pulp and comic book publisher at our 2022 PulpFest.

Founded by John W. Glenister and Jack Kelly during the spring of 1921, Fiction House gave us Action Stories, Fight Comics, Jumbo Comics, Jungle Stories, Lariat Story Magazine, North-West Romances, Planet Stories, Rangers Comics, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, Wings, and many other classic titles.

We’ll also be celebrating the ninetieth anniversary of Popular Publications’ “Dime” line of pulp magazines, particularly Dime Western and Dime Mystery. Both magazines debuted in 1932 and played a major role in the evolution of popular fiction.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Robert J. Randisi will not be appearing at PulpFest 50.

Please join us August 4 – 7 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry for PulpFest 50, celebrating a half-century of pulp cons all during 2022.
