PulpFest is not only lauded for its fine programming but also for its very substantial dealers’ room.
Beginning on Thursday, August 4, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry will be home to thousands of collectible pulp magazines and digests, vintage paperbacks, first edition hardcovers and series books, original art, B-movies and serials, collectible comic books, and much more.
What dealers are we expecting at PulpFest 50? For the next two days, we’ll be profiling our dealers, telling you a little bit about each of them so you get to know them . . .
Fantasy and science fiction publisher Meteor House will be returning to PulpFest for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Pick up your copy of the first hardcover publication of Philip José Farmer’s The Stone God Awakens or the science fiction Grand Master’s translation and retelling of a classic French adventure tale, Ironcastle, by J.-H. Rosy. The Meteor House edition will feature Roy Krenkel’s complete cover art for the original DAW Books edition for the very first time. Michael Croteau, Win Scott Eckert, and Paul Spiteri will also be selling items from the author’s estate and works created by attendees of FarmerCon, returning to PulpFest for its seventeenth convention. We hope you’ll also join us for our Meteor House panel on Friday evening, August 5, moderated by writer, artist, and graphic designer Keith Howell. Win Scott Eckert will also be appearing on our FarmerCon XVII panel on Thursday evening.
Lamont Award winner Ed Hulse of Murania Press is the editor and publisher of the much-admired journal, Blood ‘n’ Thunder, and many other publications. He’ll have the 2022 edition of BNT at PulpFest 50, plus copies of the revised and expanded second edition of The Wild West of Fiction and Film and Mistress of Death and Desire, the second collection of gruesome horror-pulp stories reprinted from Martin Goodman’s “Red Circle” pulps. Additionally, Ed will be appearing in our two-part salute to the 90th anniversary of Popular Publications’ “Dime” pulps.” We hope you’ll join us for “Popular’s Chameleon — Dime Mystery” on Thursday, August 4, and “The Hardboiled West” on Friday, August 5.
The author of over seventy novels and assorted books, Will Murray will be selling copies from his various “The All-New Wild Adventures of . . .” series including his latest book, The Spider: Scourge of the Scorpion. Expect to see some of Will’s non-fiction books, including Master of Mystery: The Rise of The Shadow and Wordslingers: An Epitaph for the Western. Of course, he’ll be glad to sign your purchases. Will publishes his books under the Adventures in Bronze banner. One of the leading scholars of pulp history, Will be joining Ed Hulse for our presentation concerning “The Hardboiled West.” He’ll also be joining moderator William Patrick Maynard on our “Bringing the Pulps to the 21st Century — The Writers” panel, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Phil Nelson is from Waverly, Ohio. He will be bringing an assortment of pulp magazines and new-condition Girasol Collectables pulp replicas. This very personable dealer will also have vintage paperbacks, comic books, and other collectibles. He’s a fan of detective and adventure fiction.
One of our very first supporters when PulpFest came to Mars, Pennsylvania was Todd McDevitt of New Dimension Comics. Owned by Todd since 1986, New Dimension has six stores in the Pittsburgh region, including one just 2.5 miles away from Pulpfest. Please visit the store while you’re in town. It’s at 20550 Route 19, Cranberry Township, PA 16066. Todd will be bringing some of his dealer buddies to the convention, offering our members some vintage treats for the first time. They’ve rented ten island tables.
Bob Deis and Wyatt Doyle are the co-editors of The Men’s Adventure Library book series, published by New Texture. It collects classic stories and artwork from the men’s adventure magazines that were published during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. They’ll be selling copies of their books along with the great new magazine, Men’s Adventure Quarterly, that Bob publishes with Bill Cunningham of Pulp 2.0 Press. From the 1950s to the 1990s, the late Samson Pollen created top-notch illustration artwork for various types of periodicals and paperback books, as well as fine art paintings for galleries and commissions. However, most of his artwork — literally hundreds of paintings — was used as interior illustrations for stories in the Atlas/Diamond group of men’s adventure magazines published by Martin Goodman’s Magazine Management Company. PulpFest 50 is very pleased to announce that the artist’s widow, Jacqueline Pollen, will be exhibiting a number of her late husband’s illustrations in our dealers’ room. This is her second trip to PulpFest.
A resident of Virginia, Craig Poole has been attending pulp conventions for many years. He’ll be exhibiting a number of high-end illustrations in our PulpFest 50 dealers’ room. Craig will have a mix of genres, but science fiction will be the primary focus.
Please welcome voice actor and audio artist Mark Redfield of Redfield Arts Audio to this year’s PulpFest. Mark is an actor, writer, artist, and filmmaker. Mark will have copies of his novel, Cult of the Nosferatu, and recent audiobooks including Mark Wheatley’s Songs of the Giants: The Poetry of Pulp, Sinbad and the Pirate Princess — starring Caroline Munro — and more at PulpFest. Sound designer, video editor, web designer, and actress Jennifer Rouse will also be appearing at PulpFest 50.
Garyn and Virginia Roberts from northern Wisconsin will be bringing lots of good, fresh old treasures at bargain prices. They’ll have science fiction, mystery, and western pulps, young adult series books, Big Little Books, Golden and Silver Age comic books, pulp replicas, hardcovers, paperbacks, and more. Garyn is the winner of our 2013 Munsey Award. A leading pop culture historian, Garyn be joining Ed Hulse for our presentation concerning “Popular’s Chameleon — Dime Mystery.”
A full-time proprietor of an antique toy shop by day and a mystery mavin by night, Joseph Saine returns to PulpFest for another go-round. Hailing from northwest Ohio, among Joe’s treasures will be a variety of pulps, a large collection of quality vintage paperbacks, Big Little Books, and more. A professional auctioneer, Joe is one of the leading dealers of antique toys and toy soldiers in the Midwest. He will be helping us with our annual Saturday night auction. This year’s auction will feature Carl Joecks Estate, plus consignments from members of PulpFest. Prepare to be entertained with Joe Saine at the microphone.
Please welcome Rick Santman to his first PulpFest as a dealer. Rick will have some pulps — both bargain stock and some beauties for the display boards — a smattering of comic books, a bit of 50’s cheesecake magazines, science fiction and fantasy hardcovers — including many first editions in dust jacket — and a boatload of SF and fantasy paperbacks. He’ll also have a couple of trays of Big Little Books, some original art, and some printers plate sets — all four different plate colors — for covers for Classics Illustrated comic books.
World Fantasy Award winner Darrell Schweitzer has been publishing in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction fields since the early 1970s. He will be selling copies of his two-volume retrospective, The Best of Darrell Schweitzer, Awaiting Strange Gods — his Lovecraftian fiction collection — The Robert E. Howard Reader, Living with the Dead — a Shirley Jackson Award finalist — and anthologies that he has edited, including The Mountains of Madness Revealed. Darrell will also have magazines such as Interzone, Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magzine, Weirdbook, and back issues of Weird Tales (a magazine that he co-edited for 19 years). Finally, he will have a selection of Wildside Press titles, including their Robert E. Howard volumes and pulp facsimile reprints, as well as used hardcover and paperback books.
Don Simpson is the cartoonist/creator of the comic books Megaton Man, Border Worlds, and Bizarre Heroes. He’ll have prints and original art from his 1992 Fantagraphics adaptation of King Kong and other works, and will be accepting pen and ink commissions. He’ll even draw in your sketchbook if you have one! This year Don illustrated Wayne Carey’s science-fiction novel Yokai, which debuts from Airship 27 (proving that Pulpfest is a great place for artists and writers to meet up!). Don earned a Ph.D. in History of Art and Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013. So calling him Dr. Don doesn’t bother him one bit!

Pollen in Print: 1955 – 1959 is the latest release in the acclaimed Men’s Adventure Library series co-edited by Robert Deis and Wyatt Doyle. The book reproduces Samson Pollen’s illustrations published in men’s adventure magazines between 1955 and 1955, printed in chronological order using high-resolution scans. The book will be officially released at PulpFest 50.
