PulpFest

Last Call for Munsey Nominations

Every year, PulpFest recognizes those who work to keep the pulps alive for this and future generations. Small press publisher, book designer, writer, editor, and convention organizer Rich Harvey won our 2021 Munsey Award. You can read about Rich by clicking here. The Munsey Award is named after Frank A. Munsey, the publisher of the first pulp magazine.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2022 Munsey Award. Previous winners of the Lamont, Munsey, or Rusty Award are not eligible for the award. Click here to see our previous winners.

PulpFest is also accepting nominations for the Rusty Hevelin Service Award, named for the man who had guided Pulpcon for most of its existence. This award is designed to recognize those persons who have worked long and hard for the pulp community with little thought for individual recognition. It is meant to reward largely quiet and unheralded work and is reserved for those individuals who are most deserving.

To nominate a person or organization for either or both of these prestigious awards, please provide a brief statement of your reasons. Send it to PulpFest marketing and programming director Mike Chomko at mike@pulpfest.com. You can also reach Mike at 2217 W. Fairview Street, Allentown, PA 18104-6542.

The deadline for nominations is May 31. Our Lamont, Munsey, and Rusty Award winners will select the recipient from among your nominees. The award will be presented on Saturday evening, August 6, at PulpFest 50.

PulpFest 50 will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry in Mars, Pennsylvania. Click the Registration button on the PulpFest website to become a member of the convention. If you need lodging, you’ll also be able to book a room through our site.  The convention will begin on Thursday, August 4, and run through Sunday, August 7.

The Munsey Award was created in 2009 by award-winning artist David Saunders, the son of legendary illustrator Norman Saunders. Dan Zimmer of The Illustrated Press and publisher of Illustration Magazine produced a limited signed and numbered edition of the award. The PulpFest Committee is indebted to both David and Dan for their generous support of our community.
