Happy Father’s Day! We hope to see a lot of dads and moms and kids at PulpFest 2021 and its “convention within a convention,” ERBFest 2021!
Thanks to the efforts of Henry G. Franke III, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., and the PulpFest organizing committee, there will be a Summer 2021 convention for the fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs and his work.
Running from August 19 – 22 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry in Mars, Pennsylvania, this year’s PulpFest will be the site for ERBFest 2021. That’s like two conventions for the price of one!
ERBFest will take place at PulpFest 2021 in Mars . . . or shall we say, “Barsoom” . . . Pennsylvania. There is no extra cost to attend the ERBFest 2021 activities.
So we look forward to seeing all of you — dads, moms, and kids — at PulpFest & ERBFest 2021 from August 19 – 21. Keep watching our website for more details.
From 1940 to 1944, Edgar Rice Burroughs returned to his world of Pellucidar, originally discovered by David Innes and Abner Perry in the novel “At the Earth’s Core.” The story was serialized in THE ALL-STORY, beginning with its April 4, 1914 issue.
In 1942, Ziff-Davis published three of Burroughs’ newest stories set 500 miles below the surface of the Earth in AMAZING STORIES. The third of four novellas in the sequence — “Tiger Girl” — appeared in the April 1942 number of AMAZING STORIES, featuring cover art by Robert Fuqua. Of course, the artist’s illustration was for Eando Binder’s novella, “Adam Link Saves the World.”
It wasn’t until 1964 that “Tiger Girl” would get its own cover illustration. It would appear on the Ace Books edition of SAVAGE PELLUCIDAR, collecting the four Pellucidar novellas that Edgar Rice Burroughs had written during the early forties. Frank Frazetta was the cover artist.
Incidentally, the title story for the Ace paperback — written in 1944 — would not be published until 1963, when it ran in the November issue of AMAZING STORIES. It would also appear in the Canaveral Press edition of SAVAGE PELLUCIDAR, released the same month.
