Happy Thanksgiving From PulpFest

Today, the PulpFest organizing committee wishes everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. Our charming featured image from LOVE STORY MAGAZINE has a light-hearted feel, typical of period holiday covers. Despite all that 2020 has brought to the table, we hope that all of you are still able to share a good meal with your closest loved ones this week.

In the coming months, PulpFest will bring you many fresh stories about the pulps, including articles about artists Margaret Brundage and Modest Stein. We’ll also continue our popular new series, “PulpFest Profiles,” which highlights the many contemporary creators who have been inspired by the pulps. And, a series of posts about PulpFest 2021, which will celebrate “Love in the Shadows.” Sound exciting? We think so!

Although we cannot be sure what’s in store for 2021, we are certainly hopeful that the year will bring us much brighter things than we have experienced in 2020.

PulpFest 2021 begins on Thursday, August 19, and runs through Sunday, August 22. Please join us at the beautiful DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry. We look forward to seeing you in August 2021 for “Love in the Shadows!”

(James Clark Work began to paint covers for LOVE STORY MAGAZINE in 1939. He created over thirty covers for the popular Street & Smith romance pulp, including the November 25, 1939 issue. Work’s covers for LOVE STORY are from the magazine’s “risque” period, often depicting a man and a woman about to kiss. The artist continued to contribute cover paintings to the magazine until late 1942 when it began to rely more on photographic covers.)

PulpFest Returns to Pittsburgh!

PulpFest 2024 will begin Thursday, Aug. 1, and run through Sunday, Aug. 4. It will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry. Please join us for "Spice, Spies, & Shaw" and much more at PulpFest 2024.
