PulpFest 2018 will begin on Thursday, July 26. The dealers’ room will be open to registered sellers to set up their displays from 4 to 11 PM. Early registration for all convention attendees will take place from 4 to 8 PM outside the dealers’ room at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry — just north of Pennsylvania’s “Steel City.” There will be early-bird shopping from 5:30 to 8:30 PM for PulpFest members who will be staying at the DoubleTree or for those who elect to purchase an early-bird membership. Our full slate of programming for Thursday evening will get underway at 8:40 PM.
If you have not yet booked a room for your stay, please call 1-800-222-8733 to reach the DoubleTree. Be sure to mention PulpFest in order to receive any convention special deals that may still be available. Conveniently located at the intersection of three major roadways, the DoubleTree boasts a world-class restaurant in an open air setting. There are many other restaurants nearby — some within walking distance — suitable for a variety of tastes. The more adventurous can discover plenty of dining, shopping, and nightlife just a short drive away in downtown Pittsburgh. The DoubleTree also offers a 24-hour fitness center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a sauna. You’ll find a map to the hotel and the surrounding area on the PulpFest home page.
Thanks so much to everyone who has reserved a room at our host hotel. By staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry, you’ve helped to ensure the convention’s success.
In 2018, PulpFest will honor the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War. The convention will focus on the so-called “war pulps” of the early twentieth century and the depiction of war in popular culture. We’ll also salute the centennial of the birth of Grand Master of Science Fiction Philip José Farmer. Join PulpFest 2018 and FarmerCon 100 for panels and presentations on the celebrated author of TARZAN ALIVE: A DEFINITIVE BIOGRAPHY OF LORD GREYSTOKE, DOC SAVAGE: HIS APOCALYPTIC LIFE, the Riverworld and World of Tiers series, and many other works.
The convention’s guest of honor will be award-winning author Joe Lansdale. The author of over forty novels and many short stories, Lansdale has also written for comics, television, film, Internet sites, and more. PulpFest will also be hosting a rare gallery showing of original art by acclaimed writer-illustrator Mark Wheatley.
And don’t forget about our Confluence deal! All PulpFest members will receive $10 off the price of a daily membership to Confluence, Pittsburgh’s long-running literary conference on science fiction, fantasy and horror. The conference runs from 3 PM on Friday, July 27, through 3 PM on Sunday, July 29. It takes place at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel, located at 1160 Thorn Run Road in Coraopolis. Confluence members who wish to attend PulpFest 2018 will receive the same $10 discount off the price of a daily admission with proof of their membership.

(Designed by PulpFest’s artistic director, William Lampkin, our first PulpFest 2018 post card features the work of artist Gertrude C. Orde. Her painting was originally used as the cover for the January 1932 number of Fawcett Publications’ BATTLE STORIES. It’s based on the poster art for the classic World War I film, ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT.)
