PulpFest marketing and programming director Mike Chomko and his wife, Dianne, are very happy to announce that their daughter, Maureen, married Jesse Abbott Klafter on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The wedding took place just outside of Leavenworth, Washington.
Mike was very honored to walk his daughter “down the aisle” at the Tierra Retreat Center, nestled in the beautiful Cascade Mountains. Although Leavenworth bills itself as “a fully-functioning Bavarian town in the middle of Washington,” Mike chose not to wear Lederhosen during the festivities. He did drink a lot though.
The proud parents will be returning to Pennsylvania about a week before the start of PulpFest 2017. Hopefully, you’ll get to congratulate Maureen’s dad at this year’s convention, taking place from July 27 through July 30 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry — just north of Pennsylvania’s “Steel City.”
Please remember that if you’re not from the Pittsburgh area, don’t forget to book a room at the DoubleTree. Call 1-800-222-8733 and be sure to mention PulpFest in order to receive any convention special deals that may still be available.
(The November 1947 cover art for Popular Publications’ RANGELAND ROMANCES was painted by Gloria Stoll Karn. The artist, who began contributing black and white interior illustrations to pulp magazines at the age of seventeen, started to paint covers for the industry after just a few years.
Ms. Karn will be this year’s PulpFest Guest of Honor. She will be interviewed on stage by fine artist and pulp art historian David Saunders on Saturday, July 29, beginning at 7:30 PM. Please be sure to register for PulpFest 2017 to be able to enjoy this interesting and entertaining presentation.)
