As mentioned on Wednesday, the Saturday Night Auction returns to PulpFest on July 29. It will begin at 10 PM with the always entertaining John P. Gunnison of Adventure House serving as auctioneer. We’ll have a variety of both pulps, digests, first edition hardcovers, and other collectibles from the estate of Woody Hagadish as well as a variety of pulps from the collection of the late Larry Latham. Today and tomorrow, we’ll be showing more examples from these collections. On Saturday, July 8, we hope to publish a list of our scheduled auction lots. Please note that the list is subject to change.
Below, you’ll find photographs of the first edition hardcovers that PulpFest will be offering this year. These are from the estate of Woody Hagadish. The books were published by Avalon Books, Gnome Press, and Shasta Publishers in the 1950s and early 1960s.
Also featured are a few of the issues of AMRA that are being offered at this year’s auction by one of the convention’s members. They are part of a complete set of the second volume of the award-winning fanzine, numbers 1 – 71. Published by George Scithers and edited by Scithers, Liz Wilson, Dan Adkins, and others, AMRA ran from 1959 through 1982. According to FANCYCLOPEDIA 3, “It was Volume 2 because starting in April 1955 George Heap published a fanzine which was probably a direct predecessor. It had few issues.” AMRA won Best Fanzine Hugos in 1964 and 1967.
If you can’t make it to PulpFest 2017 and would like to bid on any of these highly collectible volumes, please contact PulpFest marketing and programming director Mike Chomko by email at mike@pulpfest.com.
