With just over 70 days to go until PulpFest 2016, you might be getting a little bit hungry for some pulps or pulp fiction. To whet your appetite for “Summer’s AMAZING Pulp Con,” here are three more conventions that will take place in the next month or so.
Like PulpFest 2016, this year’s Robert E. Howard Days will salute a variety of anniversaries: the fiftieth anniversary of the Lancer Books publication of CONAN THE ADVENTURER and the beginning of artist Frank Frazetta’s celebrated association with the work of Robert E. Howard; the thirtieth anniversary of Robert E. Howard Days; and the twentieth anniversary of the Howard movie THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. Michael Scott Myers, the screenwriter for the film, will be the convention’s guest of honor. Val Mayerik — who worked for Marvel Comics for more than twenty years and illustrated CONAN THE BARBARIAN, THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, and CONAN THE SAVAGE — will be a special guest of the convention.
This annual gathering of Two-Gun Bob’s fans is presented by Project Pride of Cross Plains and sponsored by the Robert E. Howard Foundation, with help from the members of the Robert E. Howard United Press Association. Visit the convention’s home page or Facebook site to learn more about this great event, taking place in Cross Plains, Texas on June 10 – 11.
On June 11, the Pulp Ark New Pulp Awards will be presented at the River City Comic Expo in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dedicated to promoting awareness of comic books and fandoms to encourage literacy, diversity, and camaraderie within the community, River City annually celebrates the contributions of comics and art to American culture. The convention will be held at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock on June 11 and 12.
Classicon is one of the oldest pulp and paperback shows. Featuring 35 tables and thousands of collectible pulp magazines, paperbacks, vintage comic books, original artwork, and more, it is held in the spring and the fall in Lansing, Michigan. The next Classicon will take place on June 18. Admission is $3. For more information, please write to the Curious Book Shop at 304 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, Michigan 48823 or by email at curiousbooks@gmail.com.
The 2016 gathering of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Chain of Friendship is planned for the weekend of June 26 -28. It will be held at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California. Hosted by the Los Angeles SubERBs and ERB, Inc., the gathering will culminate in an advance screening of the highly anticipated film, THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, on the Warner Bros. studio lot. For additional information on the 2016 ECOF, please visit The Tarzan Files.
